The idea to form a society of dermatologists evolved quite sometime back. Initially it started with a letter from Dr. GovindaPokhrel requesting all dermatologists available at that time for a meeting at Bir Hospital Skin OPD on 10.1.2045.

After deliberations amongst dermatologists during the later part of the eighties we finally decided to form the Society of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists of Nepal SODVELON with aims and objectives to enhance our voices for the betterment of our members as well as the upliftment of medical services in this field of medicine throughout the country. The dermatological and venereological services are usually kept at low profiles in most hospitals and it is one such branch of medicine where few emergencies take place.

By the end of eighties, there were 10 dermatologists and there was meeting in Bir hospital. This we needed because democracy was reintroduced in the country and ban on parties were lifted and that various organizations were being formed to look after its welfare.

An ad hoc committee was formed under the chairmanship of Dr. Ram Kumar Shresthaand asubcommittee was formed to prepare the constitution. Four of us were deputed for this, Dr. Abhi Narayan Ghimire, Dr. Puspa Bhatt, Dr. N. K. Singh and myself. After few more meetings and after detailed discussions the constitution was passed by the meeting. The abbreviation as SODVELON for the Society of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists of Nepal was proposed by Dr. Bimla Ojha and the logo was designed by Mrs. Prafulla Rajbhandari.

So finally on 2048.12.18 we decided to form Society of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists of Nepal. The members present during this meeting thus became the founder members of this Society.
